FLOWERLAND by Insuh Yoon
This book contains selected photographs from my "Flower" series (2014-2016).
I remember in early 2013 I had reached a point when I had gotten very depressed and basically lost the will to do much of anything much less create any kind of art. It was almost an entire year until I decided to return to photography. It was around Valentine's Day of 2014 and my model was Miss Jennette. I remember looking at her portfolio and being reminded of silver screen starlets of the golden age of Hollywood and I somehow felt compelled to bring her a red rose to shoot with (it seemed fitting). The shoot went very well and I was happy with the images, it felt good to create again. In the coming weeks, after I posted these photos online, I found that more people wanted to shoot with me... and of course I felt compelled to bring them flowers as well. I felt really alive and it was important for me to be creating again.
Nearly 3 years has passed since I started this project and I feel very grateful for all that happened in that time. My fanbase grew to an extent that I had never even imagined would be possible for myself. I've had two solo exhibitions and had the chance to be several group shows when I had never really done them before. I've been lucky to have collaborated with many beautiful talented women and I'm lucky to have made many friends during this time. I'm grateful for all that has happened to me and this book is very important to who I am as an artist and my growth as a person. I worked extremely hard to get to this point and I hope this book will not be my last. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I've enjoyed creating it.
